Fall Cuboree Information

Date: Oct. 4th - Oct. 6th
Location: Avondale Scout Reservation
                  14433 Hwy 10
                  Clinton, LA 70722

You can camp Friday night or come up Saturday and camp just Saturday night....or you can just attend Saturday and not camp...the choice is yours.

Activities are held on Saturday from 9a-1p. Fishing is usually from 9a-11a. They will give trophies for the largest and smallest fish caught by the cub scouts....and the largest and smallest caught by the scout's family.

Packs will be sponsoring other games/crafts until 1pm for the whole family to enjoy. There is also Archery, but only Cub Scouts can participate due to limited time available.

There is not a designated time for each activity but all activities are over at 1pm so packs can eat lunch. The afternoon is free time. There will be a flag lowering ceremony in the afternoon.....usually around 5pm and the whole pack attends together and at this time is when trophies/awards are given.

When it gets dark.....around 7-8ish...we will have the tent or treat. We will make our way to each campsite and 'tent or treat'. You will need to bring your costume if you plan on dressing up....and please remember to bring a bucket or sack for candy. It is not required you dress up to Tent or Treat...it just adds to the fun.

Each year they judge the campsites for the best decorated....so please bring skulls, witches, pumpkins, or whatever you have to help us decorate our campsite.

On Sunday morning they will open the gates for vehicles to come to camp site to load. There is not a certain time to leave....in the past we usually make breakfast at camp and are packed and on the road by 10am or 11am.

The following rules are from our district committee. Pack 164 does not allow any children to leave the campsite without an adult unless you are a Webelos and you have a buddy....and even then you MUST let your parent know you are leaving. All other ages/dens must have a parent with you. In the past we have had parents allow young children/scouts to leave camp without any supervision. As leader of this camping trip I ask that no-one allow their children to leave without supervision. As cub scout leaders/parents we are to teach our boys to follow the rules that are enforced for everyone's safety. I appreciate your understanding in this matter!!!

MEDICAL EMERGENCIES: We will have on-site medical assistance during the event. Minor first aid may be treated at your pack camp if you have sufficient supplies. DO NOT prank emergencies.

Rules and Regulations

The following rules are put in place for the safety of all in attendance.

Leaders

ALL leaders are responsible for the actions and conduct of their members (and guests, parents, friends, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters) in their pack. ALL leaders are required to support and enforce the rules put into place for the weekend. Please go over these guidelines with your unit before this event so that everyone is aware of the dos and don’ts of the weekend.

Gates & Vehicles

Due to new National policy we must collect your Drivers license when you enter the gate and you will get it back when you return your vehicle to the parking lot. Gates will be open from 3:00 pm – 8:30 pm Friday night. Gates will then be closed and locked until Saturday morning from 7:00 am – 8:00 am for those coming in or leaving Saturday. Gates will again be closed and locked and will reopen Sunday morning at 8:00 am. Speed limit is 5 mph. Wear your seat belt no more persons than seat belts. No riding in open vehicles (beds of pick-ups – even if there is a camper shell). You will have 30 minutes to drive to your campsite, unload your vehicle, and then drive back to the parking lot. Do not block any vehicles or park three deep in the parking lot. After you park, you can go back to your campsite to set up your tent and organize your items. Please make note of the times and stress to all attending that the gates will only be open at the times listed. If you arrive any other time or plan to leave any other time you will have to carry all of your gear. This rule is in effect for the safety of all scouts and siblings in the campsite area. The only vehicles that will be allowed in the area after these times will be emergency vehicles. If you have a medical condition that limits your ability to walk from the parking lot to the campsite or vice versa, contact one of the emergency vehicles to escort you.

** No motor homes, campers, or RV’s; no generators
**No bikes allowed due to safety rules.

Webelos Woods

Webelos Woods is Sept 28th - Sept 29th.

This is a camping trip for Webelos and Boy Scouts only. Scouts will arrive on Sat morning....before 9:30. Each pack will round to all the scout troops and participate in an activity sponsored by the Boy Scouts. Activities include such things as whittling, pitching a tent, first aide....etc. Webelos Scouts must complete certain requirements in their 2 years as a Webelos in order to earn their Arrow of Light. Some of these requirements are camping with a troop, pitching a tent, cooking outdoors...among others....so this is a great opportunity for webelos to ask questions and get these requirements fulfilled.

The cost is $10 for scouts/parents or leaders. The deadline to turn in the money and avoid a late fee is Thursday Sept 12th. I will need to collect this at our meeting on the 9th or at least by Wednesday so I can get it in at council. You can still attend if you miss the deadline....you will just have a late fee.

If you would like for your 4th or 5th grade Webelos to go.... please see me to get the info packet.

Cub Scout Round-Up #2 is Sept 9th

We have started our school round-up. Our first scout night...we recruited 8 scouts. I have had several calls since then about registration. We will be visiting LES on Sept 5th for our talk with the classes and then we will hold another scout night on Sept 9th.

Please tell your neighbors, friends, classmates and cousins about Cub Scouts....and get them to join. The first time you recruit a boy to join scouts because you told him about it will earn you a patch to wear on your scout uniform!! (see below)

Sept 9th is also our first meeting back as a pack. I can't wait to get this year started. Lots of great ideas and activities planned. Bring on the cooler weather so we can go camping!!!

Yours in Scouting,
Cubmaster Cathy
