What do the Cub Leaders do?

The cub scout leaders plan weekly Den Meetings to work on requirements from their handbooks, belt loops, academics and sports pins, patches, and arrow point electives. We will have pack activities throughout the year for the cub scouts such as a pinewood derby, raingutter regatta, fall festival, and community service projects.

What can parents do?
First, parents can work with their Cub Scout to earn their Bobcat Rank. It is a very simple and must be earned before any other rank or awards. Next, parents will occasionally need to work on rank requirements at home with their boys and report back to leaders of finished requirements. Boys can get credit for achievements also done at school, home, and church….so make sure you sign off when one is completed and let your leader know. Please help your scout keep his scout uniform current with all of the awards he receives placed in the right place on the shirt.

What can the Cub Scout do?
First, the cub scout can work with their parents to earn their Bobcat Rank. It is a very simple and easy rank to earn. The Cub Scout should attend all Den and Pack Meetings. If a meeting is missed, he needs to get with leader to find which achievements were missed. He should read through his book on a regular basis finding things he can do on his own or with the help of a family member, then make sure it is signed off in the book. The Cub Scout should wear his uniform (shirt, neckerchief, and slide) or pack t-shirt to all den meetings, pack meetings and pack outings. Shirts should be buttoned and tucked in, and he should "Do his Best" at whatever is asked of him.

What is the red vest?
At den/pack meetings we work on patches, belt loops, and pins that do not go on the cub scout shirt. These ‘fun’ patches can be worn on a red vest that can be purchased at the scout shop or online. You can also place these patches on backpacks, duffel bags, wall hangings, etc. if you choose but not on your scout shirt.

Den Meetings

Den Meetings are held every Monday at 6:00pm at the Loranger United Methodist Church. Any school holidays that fall on Monday then there will be no meeting on that day too.

Pack Meetings
Pack meetings are held monthly. They take the place of regular scheduled den meetings for that week. These are meetings where the whole pack participate together in an activity.

Bobcat Badge

To earn the Bobcat badge, 8 things must be done at home with the family. The Bobcat trail can be found in the front of the handbook. In cub scouting, parents can mark off requirements at home. Please write them in your book and show the den leader if something was accomplished outside the den.

Ranks

After you have earned the bobcat badge, you should work on your rank. The requirements are outlined in your handbook. Some of them can only be done at home with the family. Please work on those with your cub scout and once completed let your leader know. Your leader will give you an outline of what will be completed in den meetings and what you will need to work on at home.

Boys Life Magazine  This is a magazine for Cub Scouts and the boys really enjoy reading it. Boys can earn a Boys Life patch by reading the magazine and doing a few other things. There are also games/activities in the magazine that allow for a patch to be earned. These activities can be completed at home and patches requested through the magazine. Boy's Life is an additional fee, please see me if you would like to sign up your scout for Boy's Life.
